  1. (Daria ch.1-14)
    Chapter one:
    Arthur Shelby a kind hearted Kentucky slave owner has fallen into debt and the novel opens up with him and a slave trader Haley, discussing who to sell in order for him to get out of this debt. Hesitantly Mr. Shelby gives away one of his most noble and honorable slaves Uncle Tom. Haley insists to include another slave as well, as Uncle Tom is not enough. Mr. Shelby decides upon his wife's maid Eliza.
    Chapter two:
    A backstory of Eliza is stated. She married a Mulatto (half white, half black) man named George, however was separated from him when he was hired to work in a nearby factory. George and Eliza suffered the loss of two young children, due to such Eliza is extremely protective of her only remaining child, Harry. George at the factory invented a machine that speeds up the cleaning of hemp. Although he gained admiration from the Factory boss, his master removed him. Claiming that he only invented the machine because he was too lazy to work on his own. As punishment he put him to work with the lowest class jobs, separating him from Eliza even more.
    Chapter three:
    George visits his wife in great distraught. He tells her that he is going to try and escape because he can no longer bear the pain of his owner. Eliza tries and calm him down telling him to trust in God, however George then reveal that his master is urging him to take another wife. As he leaves he tells her that he is planning to plead for Canada in a week and there will earn enough to buy freedom for Eliza and Harry.
    Chapter four:
    The reader is in Uncle Tom's cabin, and his wife, Aunt chloe is cooking dinner while the Shelby’s son (Mas’r George) is teaching Tom to the write the letter G. (Many detailed descriptions of the food in this chapter). After Dinner church is held for slaves to gather and sing hymns with Mas’r George reading the last chapter of Revelation.
    At the same time Mr. Shelby sells off Tom and Harry to Haley. To ensure the best for Tom Mr. Shelby makes Haley promise to only sell Tom to the kindest owner.
    Chapter five:
    Mr. Shelby tells his wife that he sold off Tom and Harry. Mrs. Shelby does her best to convince her husband out of it, however it is too late. Mrs. Shelby then declares slavery a sin and that she hates everything about it and offers to sell her watch in place. Eliza overhears this conversation while hiding in the closet, realizing that her son is being sold. She confronts and tells Tom what is happening. Tom states that he will not fleas but she must with Henry.
    Chapter six:
    The following morning from Eliza running away, Mrs. Shelby calls for her in the morning multiple times, she asks another slave to go out and find Eliza. Later finding out what happened, Mrs. Shelby rejoices to the lord. Haley comes later to pick up Tom and Henry, hearing what happened he storms into the home. After a heated conversation Mrs. shelby asks some of the slaves to get a horse ready for him to go search. Sneaky Mrs. shelby stalls as long as possible and by the time they are ready to head out it is lunch time.

  2. Chapter seven:
    (Back to Eliza's story) After leaving Uncle Tom's cabin, Eliza is in mental distress and panic mode for her son. By nightfall she makes it to the Ohio River, however half of the river is covered in ice; therefore she cannot take the fairy. She goes into a Public house and learns that a boatman is attempting to cross later that evening and allows her a room so she and Henry may sleep.
    (back to Shelby's farm) Aunt Chloe is cooking at the slowest pace possible to stall Haley. Around 2 in the afternoon the search party finally takes place. The younger slaves trick Haley to take a false path. He then makes it to the river.
    (Eliza) Sam (fellow slave) sees Eliza standing in the window, he makes a diversion by having his hat blown off his head, alerting her and allowing her enough time to grab Harry and run. Eliza jumps onto one raft of ice to another. (Much like American Ninja Warrior lol) When she reaches the other side a man helps her, who she recognizes as Mr. Symmes an owner of a farm. He guides her to a house in which will provide her aid.
    Chapter eight:
    Haley is unable to cross the river after Eliza and returns to the tavern. There he meets up with a man named Tom Loker (professional slave hunter). Haley pays him and his partner Marks 50 bucks to hunt down Eliza and Harry. He makes a trade that the two men may have Eliza if they bring back Eliza and Harry.
    Chapter nine:
    (Senator Bird house) Senator bird explains to his wife the new Fugitive Slave Law of 1850. Mrs. Bird is furious to hear about the law and states that that the law is immoral. Eliza and Harry soon after arrived at their doorstep. The senator knows he is unable to keep them at his home due to his status but drives them to a home in the woods and gives her ten dollars.
    Chapter ten:
    Haley returns to Shelby's home to get Uncle Tom, after Chloe making her husband one last mean and heartfelt goodbyes Haley takes Tom away in fetters. Mas’r George runs into them after they stop in a store to fix toms handcuffs. George tell Tom that he will save him in the future and gives him a dollar to wear around his neck.
    Chapter eleven:
    In a Kentucky hotel there hangs a wanted sign “Very light mulatto . . . will probably try to pass for a white man . . . has been branded in his right hand with the letter H . . . I will give four hundred dollars for him alive, and the same sum for satisfactory proof that he has been killed.” for George (previously mentions) Men within the bar discuss his and Georges previous factory worker, Mr. Wilson. states he knows him. George arrives at the bar and talks too Mr. Wilson tellign him to tell Eliza that she should join him in Canada.
    Chapter twelve:
    (Back to Tom) Tom and Haley go to a slave market. They then board a shit and onboard a women jumps over.
    Chapter thirteen:
    (Back to Eliza) Eliza and Harry arrive at a Quaker settlement in which they stay with Rachel Halliday. After learning who Eliza is the Quakers realize that George (her husband) is on his way to the settlement. Later he arrives and the two reunite.
    Chapter fourteen:
    Tom with the slaves travel to New Orleans. On the boat Tom meets a girl named Eva St. Claire. One day she falls over and Tom saves her. Grateful to Tom, her father offers to buy him.
    Chapter fourteen:
    St. Claire's background is told (was born to a wealthy planter in Louisiana, fell in love but that did not work out, married another woman named Maria- she is possessive, materialistic and flat out vain) At the St. Claire home, Mr's cousin Miss Ophelia is brought in to help care for Eva and Mrs. St. Claire nags.

  3. (Daria Ch. 14-17)

    Chapter Fifteen:
    Tom is impressed with the home of the St. Clare's as St. Clare and Eva introduce everyone to one another. Eva gives "mammy" a big hug and Miss Ophelia is appalled of her touching a black person. St. Clare gives Marie a gift and she is un grateful.
    Chapter sixteen:
    Marie complains a lot about the slaves and how much they bother her. (why does she keep them?) Eve wants to know if she can take care of Mammy for a night, but Marie refuses thinking its a crazy idea.

    Tom and Eva become close, Eva also attempts to help Mammy out with her headaches, but is judged and ridiculed by Marie.
    Later on Tom prays for St. Clare, however he overhears this and considers this interesting.
    Chapter 17:
    (Back to Eliza and George's story)
    George and Eliza prepare to leave the Quakers in attempt to reach Canada. Phineas Fletcher shows up to take them to their new place and reveals to him that he overheard at a bar the previous night that Tom Locker and Mark are going to set out to hunt them. They then leave at dusk. Tom Locker and Mark arrive and after an altercation Phineas pushes Tom Locker off a cliff. The quakers then rush down to help and Phineas stops the bleeding.

  4. (Amanda ch.18-20)
    Chapter 18
    Uncle Tom takes on more responsibility, eventually taking over the finances of the house for his master. His faith keeps him honest and causes him to worry for St. Clare, when he spends his nights at parties and gets drunk. After talking with Tom, St. Clair promises to stop the behavior .Prue, a slave from down the street, comes into the kitchen bearing hot rolls to sell. Prue says she is miserable and wishes she were dead. In response to the remark of another slave, she admits to getting drunk in order to alleviate her sorrows. As she leaves the kitchen, Tom asks to help her with carrying the rolls. Tom encourages her to stop drinking which cause her to tell him about her past.One of her former master used her to breed children to sell at the slave market. After being sold to her current master, she gave birth to another baby and was excited to raise this child since all the other children had been taken from her. However, her mistress got sick, forcing Prue to take care of her and be away from the baby, caused her milk to dry up. Her owners refused to pay for purchased milk, and the baby died of starvation.
    Chapter 19
    A few days later, the St. Clare's learn that Prue’s master has whipped her to death. Miss Ophelia is shocked, and asks why are there no laws exist to protect against these acts of violence. St. Clare explains that the law considers slaves to be property, and people may destroy their possessions at will. Ophelia accuses St. Clare of supporting slavery; he denies the accusation
    Chapter 20
    St. Clare buys a young slave named Topsy, who has never received any education, and gives her to Miss Ophelia to tutor. He notes that the she has multiple scars since she was abused by a previous owner.He also points out that, in teaching Topsy, Ophelia would be fulfilling a role akin to that of a missionary. This statement awakens Ophelia’s conscience and she agrees to teach Topsy. Topsy is disobedient and wild and unacquainted with the conventions of Christian behavior. After she steals a pair of gloves, Ophelia presses her to confess her other sins, and she confessed falsely to stealing other items. Later, Topsy explains that she had nothing to confess but felt required to do so. When Eva speaks a few words of kindness to Topsy and looks at her in confusion,since she never heard kindness before. Topsy and Eva quickly become friends.

  5. (Lauren Ch.21-31):
    Chapter 21: Aunt Chole gets Tom’s letter and tells the Shelbys. Mrs. Shelby has the great idea on raising money to buy Tom back. In response to wanting to raise money for Tom, Aunt Chole’s offer to be hired out as a baker was agreed to by Mrs. Shelby
    Chapter 22: After two years at the St. Clares, Tom has received a letter from Master George, and has grown super close to Eva especially when reading the Bible together. Soon Eva becomes sicker and thinner.

    Chapter 23: One day when Eva’s cousin is visiting, he strikes his horse causing Eva to be in more pain than the horse. In this chapter readers see Eva’s kind heart and sensible nature. This chapter also shows St. Clare and his brother arguing about slavery because of seeing how their children interact with the slaves. After Eva and her cousin, Henrique, return from their horseback ride, he agrees to Eva that he will be nice to slaves.
    Chapter 24: In this chapter Eva’s health begins to fail and her uncaring mother now cares about her daughter. Even though she was super sick, Eva remained generous toward the slaves and is dedicating her death to the slaves. For his daughter, St. Clare promises to free Tom.
    Chapter 25: Eva gives Topsy encouragement that she and Jesus loves her even if no one seems to love Topsy. The adults listening to the conversation realizes that they could learn to appreciate and love others through Eva.
    Chapter 26: On Eva’s death bed, she gives locks of her hair to the slaves and tells them of the place she is soon to enter, Heaven. She then passes and the room is still filled with Eva’s joy, peace, and love.
    Chapter 27: The next morning is filled with sorrow and it just keeps getting worse. After Eva’s funeral, Marie begins yelling at the slaves!! After all Eva said to and treated them, now they have to deal with Marie?!?! The poor slaves Tom and St. Clare both talk about how they are to find God in a situation like theirs. Once Tom begins to pray, St. Clare finds the faith inside him and is converted to the faith.
    Chapter 28: Ophelia asks St. Clare for legal ownership of Topsy so that she can take Topsy to the North to set her free. St. Clare agrees but Ophelia asks him to think about his other slaves in the case of his death, which ends up happening due to drunkards. On his death bed, he asks Tom to pray for him.
    Chapter 29: After St. Clare’s death, his promise to Eva is forgotten and Tom is not freed. All the slaves now are at the disposal of the evil and terrible Marie and has already ordered for the first ever whipping on the St. Clare estate. Ophelia tries to have Marie set the slaves free but is turned away and sent to the slave warehouse.
    Chapter 30: In the slave warehouse, mother Susan, is helping her daughter Emmeline to look less attractive so that men will not buy her at the slave auction later in the day. In the end Emmeline, Tom, and two other slaves are bought by the rude-looking man, Simon Legree.
    Chapter 31: In this chapter readers are assured that Legree is an evil man when he takes away Tom’s personal things and threatens to beat him if he practices any religion on the plantation.

  6. (Kathryn Ch.32-End)
    Legree replaces Cassy with his new slave Emmeline as a sex slave. On the plantation, Legree's slaves treat each other cruelly, as Tom begins to lose faith. Tom is whipped for assisting another slave with her work, and is nursed back to health by Cassy, as she reveals her tragic backstory. In addition, Tom possesses multiple visions of eternity and Jesus throughout the chapter. Cassy and Emmeline devise a plan to escape (with ghosts), which ultimately leads to Legree beating Tom to death. Master George arrives to buy back the slave only find Tom near death, as the sight of him allows the old slave to die a ‘contented death’. George returns home and gives free papers to all of his slaves, as he will pay them wages, and then set them free at his death. *He also advises them to think of freedom when they see Tom's cabin. Meanwhile, Cassy and Emmeline escape and unite with George Harris’s long lost sister Madame de Thoux, whereas Cassy discovers that Eliza may be her child. Once reunited, the family ultimately moves to Liberia, to live freely.
